Movie from the very first Oslo Triathlon in 1983:
Registration / Starting Times / Start waves
The start waves are mixed organized mainly by the competitors’ self-reported expected finish time. The start waves consist of 100-150 people each. Your start time will be listed on the start list and indicated on your BIB number. It is your responsibility to start in the correct group. Change of groups can be requested at the latest one week before the race. Oslo Triathlon regrets if we cannot comply with your request.
Program for the day will be announced later on our web page and in the participant guide.
Start wave assignments are published in the start list, which is usually published approximately 2 weeks before the race day:
- Wave H-1 start 08:00
Check in and starting procedure
The transition area is for participants only and a valid race BIB is required to enter. At check-in, the bicycle brakes are checked and we control that the helmet is CE marked and sits correctly on the head, i.e., that the straps are sufficiently tightened. We really appreciate that all participants check this before check in to avoid unnecessary queuing.
Participants are assigned a spot in the transition area that are marked with your starting number. This space is at your disposal, however bags, backpacks etc. must be labeled with the luggage tag and stored in the designated area along the lower fence. Participants are encouraged to organise their equipment to assure a fast and smooth transition. The transition area will open be open from 07:00 AM and close 20 mins before start to ensure all participants can make it to the swim start in time. To reach the starting line, participants must cross a timing mat/point to register your timing chip. This registration is important to ensure that your time is correctly measured. You can pick up your bike after 12:00 PM.
PLEASE NOTE! If you fail to check in your equipment in the transition area before the closing time race organisers reserve their right to revoke you access to start. To ensure everything runs smoothly for all participants, it is important to allow ample time to check in.
A short prerace briefing is will be held in Norwegian for all participants will be held in the swim start area 10 minutes before each wave, please contact an official if you do not understand Norwegian or something in the brief is unclear to you.
Categories are according to the Norwegian Triathlon Federation rules and regulations.

And if you need a swim cap, just ask and we will give you one 🙂
PLEASE NOTE! : The timing chip is the athlete’s responsibility. Timing chip should be delivered immediately after finishing. If you bring the chip home, you must send it quickly and within 3 days to:

Chips not returned will be billed NOK 600.
All participants are required to wear a swim cap and we recommend bright colors to make you visible in the water. You way use yoiu / neoprene cap can be used under this. Wet suits are allowed if the water temperature is below 22 degrees, and highly recommended if the water temperature is below 18 degrees and for anyone who is not a skilled swimmer. Expected water temperature is between 16 – 19 ºC.
The swimming arena is a course of 1500 meters, where you always round the buoys on your left side (i.e., you swim anticlockwise). After swimming, you run up to the transition zone for changing. Swimming is monitored by guards on land, from kayaks, SUP and boat/jetski with rescue swimmers.
The cycle route leaves the transition zone, takes Sognsveien to the roundabout and onto Carl Kjelsen’s vei, then left up Maridalsveien. The route continues to Skar in Maridalen, where it turns and the turning point by Margaretakirken (the church ruins in Maridalen) where you do two laps back to Skar. After your third turn at Skar you continue back along Maridalsveien, Carl Kjelsens vei and Sognsveien to the transition zone. You can freely choose your bike type. Helmet is mandatory. Drafting is not allowed: You must be at least 10 meters behind the bike in front or must pass other participants within a maximum of 20 seconds. Violation of the rules may result in disqualification.
After the mountline, there are 500 meters of narrow path with oncoming cyclists before entering Sognsveien. This is a NO-PASS zone (overtaking should be avoided).
The running segment is on forest roads around Sognsvann. After 1 round, you run a round around the arena before embarking on a new round around Sognsvann. Then into the arena and finish.
There will be drink stations at KM 0/5 and KM 3/8 on the run. And at the turning point at Skar on the bike leg. You will get something to drink and eat after finishing, as well as the opportunity to buy some drinks and food at the arena.
Wardrobe and toilet facilities are at NIH and they are open from 07:00 to 15:00.
Oslo Triathlon / Sportsklubben Rye and NTF comply with Antidoping Norway’s regulations. All participants are responsible for familiarizing themselves with Antidoping Norway’s regulations including routines for testing.
All littering is prohibited and results in immediate disqualification.
Time limits (sweeping)
For security and safety reasons, there will be maximum time restrictions. However, the time constraints will be generous. “Sweeping” will be done after the last participant. The organizer has the right to remove from competition any participant who is taken in by the sweep patrol in boat / car / bike.
